Music and Mind

Dear friends

I hope you’ve been enjoying the summer.

My summer has been spent walking on the heath, and in between, exploring the extraordinary array of conditions that music and sound can help with. The18 times Grammy winning Diva soprano, Renée Flemming has just published a collection of essays written in collaboration with artists (such as Yoyo Ma), leading research scientists, policy-makers and practitioners, looking at pain relief, aleviating anxiety, mobility in Parkinsons sufferers and much more. It’s a really good read - and you can dip in and out.

The book is called Music and the Mind - Edited by Renee Flemming (Viking).

Another brilliant moment this summer was meeting musical instrument inventor and maker, Jochem Fassbender who brought his extraordinary collection of inventions to the UK for us to see and play. He makes instruments out of metal, glass and stone - and anything else he finds. He says there is music in objects everywhere! Unable to resist the charm of his creations, I have brought his swinging cymbals home with me - you’ll hear them in the next Sound Meditation - they are a beautiful addition to my collection.

Speaking of sound meditations, the dates and schedule for the Autumn are listed on the Sound Meditations page of this site. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Love,

Jennie
